Green Bay, Wisconsin played host to the “Excellence 09” Wisconsin Wing Conference on April 24-26. Approximately 250 members, one fourth of the Wisconsin Wing’s membership, attended this annual event.
Seven of Timmerman Composite Squadron’s members received various awards throughout the conference and one member reached an achievement that few obtain. The following received awards or an achievement:
Lt Col Chris Trossen:
- Senior Member of the Year, Wisconsin Wing with Commander’s Commendation
- Wing Staff Member of the Year, Wisconsin Wing with Commander’s Commendation
Lt Col John Lange:
- Edwin Lewis Incident Staff Member of the Year, Wisconsin Wing with Commander’s Commendation
- Edwin Lewis Incident Staff Member of the Year, Great Lakes Region
Lt Col Jerry Krueger:
- Emergency Service Officer of the Year, Wisconsin Wing with Commander’s Commendation
- Emergency Service Officer of the Year, Great Lakes Region
Lt Col John Pace:
- Gill Robb Wilson Award Citation, Level V of Professional Development. This is the highest award a senior member may achieve and Lt Col Pace is only the 2,653rd recipient of this prestigious award.
Major Greg Schulz:
- Character Development Instructor of the Year, Wisconsin Wing with Commander's Commendation
- Character Development Instructor of the Year, Great Lakes Region
- Aerospace Education Officer of the Year, Wisconsin Wing with Commander's Commendation
- Aerospace Education Officer of the Year, Great Lakes Region
C/Lt Col Heather Martin:
- Cadet of the Year, Wisconsin Wing with Commander’s Commendation
C/CMSgt Dan Turkal:
- Communicator of the Year, Wisconsin Wing with Commander’s Commendation
C/MSgt Justin Waltho:
- Cadet Non-commissioned Officer (NCO) of the Year, Wisconsin Wing with Commander’s Commendation
The recipients of the awards were chosen among 1,100 Wisconsin Civil Air Patrol members. Those winning the Great Lakes Region awards, were chosen from among the members of six states which include Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Hard work and dedication to their country and Civil Air Patrol is what drives these ambitious people to do their best. Working in one or more areas of Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education, and Emergency Services; they set the standard high to accomplish their tasks. They are volunteers pouring countless hours of time into training, mentoring, and helping in their communities and nation when disaster strikes.
